festival’s political intrigues and promotional deals,
and predicted its commercial demise. The festival
survived, however and in 1959, Truffaut himself was
awarded the prize for best screenplay for Les Quatre
Cents Coups (The Four Hundred Blows, 1959).
In spite its everpresent financial interests and political __10.
